Employee Highlight: Dewayne Percy Narrow Web Press Operator & Wineglass Tag® Guru A Quick Bite by Sev-Rend Feature
Here at Sev-Rend we know that there are many key players that are behind the scenes making sure orders are received, properly entered, and shipping on time! With that being said – some of these individuals sit in critical rolls and converse with some of our clients on a daily basis and we want to highlight these key players to give them the recognition they deserve!
This month we are highlighting our Sr. Press Operator Dewayne Percy. Dewayne just celebrated his 10 year anniversary with Sev-Rend and is one of our leads in the narrow web printing press department in production.
Dewayne is as dependable as they come with assuming responsibilities of mentorship with newer members of the production team. At Sev-Rend we see Dewayne as a valuable team player and we felt that our clients need to get to know someone who is behind the production of their tags and labels:
How Long have you been with Sev-Rend? What is your job title & responsibilities?
I have been with Sev-Rend for over 10 years and I am the lead press operator for our narrow web flexo press #1. I am responsible for a majority of print on press #1 and have several clients designated to me for output to ensure consistency.
Favorite travel spot or vacation you have taken in the past? What is fun about it?
Panama City Beach, Florida. I love the ocean and warmer weather – especially right now when it is so cold in the Midwest. I could use some of that warm weather right now!
What is the favorite part about working for Sev-Rend?
I truly enjoy what I do with putting together all of the needed items to print a tag or label. The color setup, print sequence, and all of the details in between make it a challenging and sometime fun job. Plus I get to see my work every time I walk the produce section of the grocery store – which is the most rewarding.
What have you gained from working at Sev-Rend?
I have learned a lot on the print process in regards to flexo. Especially printing 2 sided products which is challenging. Getting to show others the process as well is a great part of the job.
Before working at Sev-Rend, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
I was in the Army National Guard for 6 years before getting into the print packaging career. I worked at another printer in the St. Louis area before coming over to Sev-Rend where I have been for the past 10 years.
If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I’m a sucker for a good cheeseburger! Pizza would be next on the list.
What do you like to do on your days off?
I really enjoy getting out in the woods with my family and going camping. There are several spots in the Illinois area we like to get to on a regular basis.
If you were stuck on an island what three things would you bring?
The big 3 necessities: food, water, and shelter.
What is your favorite thing to do in the St. Louis area?
I really enjoy visiting the St. Louis Zoo with my family. A close second would be going to Six Flags in the St. Louis area.
